Course Description

Communication can be a significant barrier for pupils with SEND. It can prevent them from learning, from having a voice, and from forming positive and meaningful relationships with others.

  • Why is it important how I communicate with children with SEND?

  • What is a ‘communication rich environment’, and how does it help?

  • How do I improve the quality and clarity of learning?

This session focuses on the principles of effective communication, which can be used to guide interventions and support interactions.

Whether you are a Teaching Assistant, NQT, experienced teacher or SENDCo, this workshop will help you ensure that pupils have the best chance to understand, and be understood.

Senior Leaders and experienced class teachers from Frank Wise Special school will work with you to address individual cases.

£50 + VAT per person, or £25 +VAT for NQTs

Training Objectives

The session will be led by senior leaders at the Frank Wise School, an Outstanding Special School for children aged 2 - 19, with a national reputation for excellence. It will be interactive, and will give participants practical guidance on communicating with children with SEND, responding to individual needs, and maximising the potential of all of the children with whom they work.

Learning Outcomes

  • To develop better communicative techniques for working with children with SEND.

  • To explore how the principles can be easily transferred to your classroom.
