We are pleased to invite you to take part in the Oxfordshire Early Headship Programme. OTSA and OCC recognise that early headship is a critical phase in a leaders’ development and in the development of a school. This programme will address key leadership themes, provide the opportunity for headteachers in their first or second year of headship to connect with each other and engage in solution focused activities as well as providing 1:1 coaching support from an experienced headteacher. Through investing in this programme for the headteacher the school is investing in its future.

Launch Event
The programme begins with a free launch event on Monday 2nd July 2018. The launch is aimed at recently appointed headteachers and will have a focus on school self-evaluation and development planning. During the morning, there will be opportunities to meet key colleagues from OCC and OTSA and to find out more about both organisations and the further support and opportunities that are available to you.

Leadership Themes
You will attend a series of six termly face-to-face sessions each focusing on a key leadership theme. Each session will provide materials, resources and activities to support school based learning, and of course excellent networking opportunities. This strand of the programme will be jointly led by experienced headteachers, Tracey Smith and Tina Farr. There will also be contributions from other experienced and successful headteachers. All sessions will take place in the morning with lunch to follow.

1:1 Coaching
Coaching is recognised as highly effective professional development, particularly for leadership roles. Research shows that coaching improves performance, increases confidence and motivation, develops and enhances leadership skills and helps leaders deal with the challenges of their role such as managing teams, improving relationships and making good decisions. This strand of the programme will provide you with an experienced colleague, and OTSA trained coach, who will listen to you and help you to shape your identity as a school leader. You will take part in up to 6 one-hour coaching sessions over the year arranged at mutually convenient times and locations. The 1:1 coaching element of the programme will be led by Katherine Ryan, Headteacher at Matthew Arnold School and Local Leader of Education.
