"In the gap between policy and children is where bravery lives" - Brave Heads
Following the success of this OTSA conference in previous years, we're delighted to be offering it again for a third successive year. The conference is dedicated to Deputy, Assistant Headteachers and senior staff in Oxfordshire, across all phases, in recognition of the important role they play in schools!
Keynote speaker, author of Brave Heads and Leadership Dialogues and former secondary school leader, Dave Harris, will be leading the way on Brave Leadership. His opening keynote on “Brave Leaders - Leading Schools without Selling their Souls” will address why the education system is in turmoil, and explore the strategies shown to make a difference whilst also building the courage needed to make the right choices.
Guest speaker, Andy Buck, author of the bestselling book, Leadership Matters will provide an insightful talk on “Making great decisions: Practical ways leaders at all levels can develop their decision-making habits”. He will explore how school leaders tend to make decisions and how unconscious bias can affect this process.
There will be 4 afternoon workshops* led by:
It's all about the brain - A look at the neuroscience of learning and how schools can use this to improve pupil learning and engagement. Dave will explore what we mean by 'learning' and look at the relationship it has with engagement and curiosity.
Paul James, CEO of River Learning Trust
The Importance of System Leadership - As the educational landscape shifts further towards a school-led system, more and more leaders are taking an outward facing approach and engaging with school improvement beyond their own school. This session will explore what great system leadership is and how to deliver impactful support for others, whilst still maintaining high standards in your home school.
Flora Barton, Headteacher at Crowmarsh Gifford CE Primary School
Headsmart - Leading with integrity and doing what you know is right - Flora will share her own school's journey, where putting children and staff at the heart and centre of all that they do, is integral to their beliefs. Her session will focus on what they've done as a school to reduce workload, increase happiness and consistently embed their core values.
Gillian Standing, Headteacher at St Francis CE Primary School
When two heads are better than one: Exploring co-leadership - how it can work and the benefits for both the school and the staff
There will also be a trade fair exhibition of stands which can be viewed at intervals throughout the day.
